Episode No. 343 features artists Carrie Moyer and Aram Han Sifuentes.

Moyer is included in "Inherent Structures" at the Wexner Center for the Arts. The exhibition features 16 artists who complicate abstract painting's traditional association with chance and aesthetic purity with work that addresses concerns that range from an exploration of materials and paints to the artists' sociopolitical interests. The exhibition was curated by Michael Goodson and is on view through August 12.

Carrie Moyer is a New York-based painter whose work has mined the history of abstract painting, particularly composition and the way artists have used different materials and techniques. Moyer's work -- and titles -- often point to contemporary life and politics. Moyer frequently writes criticism for outlets such as Art in America. In 1991 she co-founded the lesbian public art project Dyke Action Machine! The Tang Museum organized a survey of Moyer's work in 2013; she's also had solo shows at the Worcester Art Museum, and at the Katzen Arts Center at American University in Washington, DC.

On the second segment, Aram Han Sifuentes discusses her Protest Banner Lending Library, which she's organizing during a summer-long residency at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation in St. Louis. Protest Banner Lending Library is an ongoing, multi-city project in which Sifuentes works with a community to create banners and to borrown from her ever-growing library of handmade banners. The banners typically address contemporary sociopolitical issues. Her work has been exhibited at numerous museums, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the MCA Chicago.

Four real bathrooms showcase latest trends

It could be said of kitchens too but there was once a time when all modern bathrooms looked much the same. From a minimalist Perth home to an art deco Melbourne property, these four bathrooms prove just how eclectic modern bathroom style is.

Golden opulence
"This young professional Elwood couple wanted to take their original, quirky but impractical bathroom and convert it into a large lush bathroom. Our client wanted the space to feel soft and align with the vintage art deco style of the 1931 built home, with modern inclusions such as brushed rose tapware and a few wow factors along the way," says Deb Cadzow, co-owner of Elwood Trade Services.

The brushed rose gold tapware is so elegant

The brushed rose gold tapware (Sussex Scala) is the hero of the space for me – swoon! Combined with the tiles, a gorgeous Kado Lux Petite freestanding bath and plantation shutters, it has a lovely spa-like feel. The bathroom is also a great example of using the same colours in different finishes to imbue the space with depth and texture. "The variation and textural finish produced by the tile layout added colour, depth and interest in this bathroom. The different wall tile and realistic wood grained floor tile offset the brushed rose gold tapware," says Deb.

"This was a period art-deco style home, but in the bathroom, the style was kept modern and fresh, yet restrained enough to align with the art-deco look," says Deb. Ultimately, I think it's a gorgeous exercise in restraint and is a fabulous example of a bathroom that is timeless but a little bit different too.

Clean & contemporary
Located in Perth and part of a newly built home, this clean and modern ensuite is comprised of a large dual basin vanity, ample storage and a wall-length mirror that increases the feeling of space.

"This bathroom is focussed on the best elements of modern, simple design. The wow-factor is found through the combination of contemporary clean lines, dramatic colour contrasts and minimal accessories," says Joe Varacalli, sales and marketing manager for New Choice Homes who built the home. "The effective contrast between the dark tiles on the walls and light floor tiles and white vanity delivers a moody, stylish look to the space," says Joe.

"The open shelves are a great modern storage solution that visually breaks up the long vanity. The walk-in shower completely enhances the spaciousness of the bathroom and offers a large luxury zone to unwind too," says Joe.

Stylish country
Part of a new build, these two bathrooms takes their design cues from their Southern Highlands location. "The design brief was modern farmhouse. Burrawang is a quaint village with many cottages dating back to the 1800's. We wanted to keep the heritage feel of the village but provide a custom-built luxurious home with some modern features too," says Jess Vassallo, managing director/builder at JNV Constructions, the company responsible for the build.

Bathroom one

The home features plenty of farmhouse inclusions such as timber weatherboards, a corrugated Colorbond roof, hardwood floorboards and v-joint lining boards throughout. But it's also full of mod-cons too. "We were able to include modern features such as underfloor heating to add a luxurious touch yet design the bathrooms and laundry to reflect the modern farmhouse style," says Jess.

"Reece Kado Classic tapware was used in both bathrooms to recreate the era of the village. This, teamed with custom shaker cabinetry, handmade subway tiles and Carrara marble bench tops created an inviting space for the homeowners to enjoy," says Jess.

Fashion Friday: The Bag We All Need for Spring & Summer

If there is one bag you need for spring and summer it's a wicker or woven bag.  This is lucky since this style bag is most often VERY affordable (minus a few exceptions, like this INSANELY good vintage Ferragamo bag above that I would die for).  Natural toned wicker or seagrass goes with everything and anything- from jeans and a tee to a summer dress for an evening out.  Black or colored versions look a little dressier, and the types with leather accents add a nice refined quality to the casual woven texture.  So pick one up now and be ready for all the wear you'll get out of it (once all this snow melts….)

The Beautiful Berlin flat and Country Retreat of Our Food Stories

Do you have a favourite creative you follow? A person or company where everything they share is simply breathtaking? Culinary-wise, mine is Our Food Stories. And judging by their almost 1 million followers on instagram, I'm not alone! I was crazily excited to catch up with Nora and Laura, the creative duo behind the brand to find out more about their recipes and work, how to achieve that 'moody' visual aesthetic, Design Tales and their beautiful abodes.

What a pleasure to feature you on MSH. We'd love to hear a little more about who you are and what you do?
We work as a photographer and food stylist. Laura studied photography and Nora actually fashion design. We have work together on our brand 'Our Food Stories' for almost 5 years and love it! Since we have a huge passion for design we decided to start an interior-Instagram Account as well. When we are not in our studio in Berlin, we love to photograph productions in our second home in the countryside, close to Berlin.

I love what you guys are doing creatively with Our Food Stories. Where did your passion for food / cooking come from?
We have both always loved good food! But when we met, it was really difficult to go out for dinner together, as Laura has so many food intolerances. So we started cooking together instead and had so much fun developing new recipes. Just before Laura finished her studies, we decided to share our recipes and pictures on a blog and we've never looked back.

What inspires your recipes / shoots?
Ingredients-wise we often get inspired by the changing seasons. And from the photographic point of view we love to roam in the countryside to find hidden corners at a lake or in the woods and these spots and memories always inspire us for dreamy photo shootings.

You have a very distinct photographic style when it comes to food photography - how did this develop? 
Thank you!! It just came naturally. When we started photographing food, our style was actually quite bright and clean, as we photographed only in our kitchen at home in Berlin. Quite soon we needed more space though and had the possibility to use Laura's fathers house in the countryside for a while as a studio, as he didn't used it during that time that much. There the light was more moody, we had plenty of old rustic tables and always found some interesting wooden boards in the garden. So our style changed of course!

Do you have any advice to anyone looking to recreate the same dark, atmospheric look in their own photography?
 We are huge fans of natural light photography. So if you want to create this moody look, we would suggest shooting in a room with a small window and without direct sunlight. You can also use a black background, but you don't even need that, if you just watch the light and get a feeling for it, when it's best and at which time it helps you to create the effect that you want.

Do you each have your own skill set, if so how do you tend to divide tasks?
We always develop the recipes together. But Nora always cooks, I'm cleaning in between :) and then we do the styling together and I shoot the pictures. But the photo shooting process is always a moment where we work together.

You divide your time between two (beautiful!) homes, can you tell us more about them?
Thanks a lot! We have a flat in Berlin which is close to our studio. Our countryside space, is a little flat in the house of friends, which we completely renovated. It's so wonderful to live in a house with them, we're very grateful for this! Together we share a wonderful garden, which is our all time favorite photo shooting spot during summer.

Laura & Nora's Berlin apartment is near to their fabulous studio where a lot of the the culinary /photographic magic happens. Because of the creative chaos that often comes with photo shoots (although looking at the pictures, that's hard to imagine!) the pair like to keep their home pared-back and calm. Enjoy the tour!

Laura & Nora completely renovated their two room flat in the countryside just outside Berlin from scratch. It's part of a larger house owned by friends and offers a completely different creative setting for their work. Let's take a peek inside...

"Our home in the countryside is more rustic, but also with a modern influence."

The pair recently renovated their kitchen in the country and opted for the black METOD-LAXARBY kitchen from IKEA. There's a great write-up about it and before and after pictures here.

Laura and Nora's fluffy friends Collin & Carry often make an appearance on Our Food Stories and Design Tales. They're super cute (and looking very mischevous in this picture, don't you think?!

 "The way we choose the style of the interior comes quite naturally and is also kind of indirectly dominated (in a good way) by the space itself, its aura and its architectural character."

"We try to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere at home and this is what we love most! We have so much chaos during photo shootings, that we value a calm yet cozy home a lot!"

A Relaxed Cologne Home with Mid-Century Vibes

Hallo! A German greeting since I'm super excited to share the home of Antonia Schmitz with you today! If you love relaxed, boho style and don't follow Antonia's wonderful blog and instagram already, you must! Her feed is awash with daily snapshots of her and her husband Gabriel's lovely Cologne home. Blending vintage with cool contemporary style, the space is teeming with touches of mid-century, design classics, the odd high street find, home-made arts and crafts set against a backdrop of white, deep blue and sage. Oh and there's her two delightful resident cats Pinkie and Flocke too. Step this way!

I love this wall colour - isn't it beautiful?! I believe it's this shade by Kolorat.  Teak and rattan furniture goes so well with it too. Other items: String shelves, PH5 mini pendant, rattan lounge chair (liking these!).

Look at that cat perched on the radio enjoying the warmth and tunes! He looks like he's overseeing the Chemex coffee brewing too - he and I would make great friends! Also spotted - the vintage scissor lamp (I picked up a similar one here!).

Ah yes, the hottest item in the home (and instagram right now!) - the mid-century teak credenza! I don't think I'll ever tire of these bad boys! Source a similar beauty here.

"It has to be cosy with a personal touch," Antonia tells me when I asked her what she finds important when  decorating. "I love things that tell a story and things that make me happy."

I think this magazine rack would certainly make me happy each day - how about you? Keep an eye on this page for a similar one. 

Antonia picked up the mid-century armchair at Otto - if you live outside of Germany, you can source  a similar vintage one here (so many beautiful ones!).

There are a few beautiful items to pick out from this corner of the sitting room so I'm just going to hop to it: Hay tray table, String shelving, Sitzfeldt sofa (you can create similar look with the Söderhamn modular sofa from IKEA with a Bemz Urban Loose Fit cover like I have in my sitting room - 15% off right now with 15myscandinavianhome - just saying :). Junit configurator light.

I normally shy away from sharing photos with TV's - which is kind of crazy since nearly all of us have one! Plus, they're one of the hardest things to style nicely in the home. I think Antonia's kind of nailed it though, don't you? If you're on the market for a TV - I'd totally recommend The Frame by Samsung - it hangs right next to the wall and looks like a work of art (check out the second film in this post featuring my Greenhouse make-over with Emily Henderson and you'll see why!).
